Swamiji says, serving Humanity is serving God, Body is the temple and Heart is the altar of God, Good health is the best treasure, Prevention is better than cure, Along with spiritualism, Materialism is also important.
As a part of his social service on March 3rd 98, He officially inaugurated the medical camp. Swamiji is also trying to build a super specialty hospital at Viswanagar. To run the camp till the hospital is constructed, a building “Dhanavantri”, which has 18 rooms has been built. In Viswanagar, medicinal plants are being grown in about 2 acres of land, and a research center for preparation of Ayurvedic medicines is being constructed.
Speaking to the patients during the medical camp, Sri Viswayogi Viswamji Maharaj, makes the rural people aware of the precautions they should take, diet regulations, importance of cleanliness and hygiene, mother and child care etc. He tells people to respect their doctors and have faith in them, at the same time he tells the doctors to use their profession, not just for money, but also for the welfare of humanity, by giving correct treatment at appropriate time.
In these medical camps, specialists like dentists, ophthalmologists, cardiologists, pediatricians, gynecologists, orthopedics, urologists attend the medical camp for the patients. After the camp, follow up in required cases, x-rays, expensive medications etc are provided by Padmavathi Nursing home in Guntur.
Services Rendered
As of October 2007, 28,800 patients were benefited in these camps which include 16,600 women abd 12,200 men.
Cardiology: Nearly 450 patients are treated annually. Expensive medicines worth Rs. 40,000 are distributed free of cost to 35-40 patients every month. Patients are also financially benefited by getting their complete cardiac evaluation and surgeries done at CARE hospitals Hyderabad, under the able guidance of Dr. G. Surya Prakash.
Dental: Regular oral and dental check up for patients including necessary treatment like tooth extractions are provided. Patients are educated on the maintenance of oral and dental hygiene . Screening for oral cancer is also undertaken.
Eye(Opthalmology): Regular eye exams are conducted on patients in the camps and free spectacles are distributed. Till date nearly 5000 spectacles were distributed and 2000 cataract surgeries are performed.
Gastroenterology: Nearly 20-25 patients with gastroeintestinal and liver ailments are treated during each health camp and given medicines worth Rs. 1000 to each patient per month.
Obsterics & Gynecology: Nearly 16,600 women and children have been treated so far. Besides free medications, necessary surgeries, deliveries and D&C's are performed at Guntur to the needy.
Pediatrics: Many children with various medical problems including malnutrition were treated in the camps and also provided medicines free of cost.
Besides the above mentioned services, General medicine, Orthopedics, Endocrinology, ENT, Urology are also provided.
Approximately Rs. 2.25 crores worth of medicines, spectacles and surgical services have been provided during the health camps so far conducted.
