Swamiji has conveyed His Divine Blessings to Mr. Upendra Chivukula, New Jersey, Public Utilities Commissioner
who is being honored in Vijayawada, AP by Mr. Mandali Buddha Prasad. Mr. Upendra also gave a telephone interview to Andhra Bhoomi.

FELICITATION TO SRI CHIVUKULA UPENDRA IN HOTEL BALARAMPUR, VIJAYAWADA

On May 15, 2015, at 6.30 P.M, a meeting was organized in Hotel Balarampur, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, jointly by “Telugu Logili” a voluntary social service organization, and Krishna District Writers’ Association, to honor Sri Chivukula Upendra of New Jersey, USA, who is the first ever Telugu person who has become a minister of a state, New Jersey, in America.

Sri Mandali Buddha Prasad, Deputy Speaker of Andhra Pradesh Assembly, was the chief guest at the meeting presided over by Sri Guttikonda Subbarao, President of Krishna District Writers’ Association. Bhagawan Sri Sri Sri Viswayogi Viswamjee Maharaj attended the meeting as a special invitee. The meeting began with an introduction of Sri Chivukula Upendra by Sri Kilaru Muddu Krishna.

Swamijee, in his discourse, traced how Sri Upendra, born in a poor family of Nellore (AP) had to overcome several odds and with the help of some donors pursued higher studies in Chennai and in New York. Settling down in New Jersey, Sri Upendra engaged himself in social service activities in New Jersey which earned him the appreciation of the people of that state. Swamijee further added that he entered the political arena by becoming a member of the Democratic Party and gradually rose to occupy many positions of power. Beginning his political career as a Ward Councilor, he went on to become Deputy Mayor and Mayor of New Jersey city and was elected seven times to the Assembly of New Jersey State. He became the Deputy Speaker of New Jersey Assembly and in that capacity discharged his duties successfully to the satisfaction of all concerned. Currently he is serving as Commissioner of Public Utilities Board (a minister of New Jersey) having been so chosen by the Senate of USA. Amidst appreciative clapping by the audience, Upendra’s being so appointed, Swamijee declared, is indeed a matter of pride for India, all Indians, the state of Andhra Pradesh and the entire Telugu race.

Swamijee pointed out that Sri Upendra, was an intellectual, who worked very hard to achieve his goals, and who filled his heart with true love and congratulated him for the great social service being rendered by him. When Sri Upendra visited him in Viswamandiram and Viswanagar, Swamijee while blessing him predicted that he would soon rise to a very high position and assured him that he always occupied a special position in Swamijee’s heart. Swamijee expressed his fervent hope that in the near future Sri Upendra would become a member of the Senate of USA and would serve as a bridge between USA and India and would strive to bring the two countries closer, and establish a bond of cooperation between them based on a desire to help each other. Swamijee expressed his belief that this would foster Universal Peace.
Speaking after Swamijee, Sri Buddha Prasad recalled his intimacy with Sri Upendra both in India and America. Continuing, Sri Prasad informed the audience that Sri Upendra was the first Telugu person to have scaled great political heights despite the constraints of the American social system. He recalled that Sri Upendra was the first Telugu person and the fourth Indian to have been elected to the New Jersey Assembly. Although Sri Upendra had settled in America several decades ago, he has not forgotten his mother tongue and it is equally remarkable that his wife (a Cuban lady) and his daughter and son speak Telugu at home. Sri Prasad told the audience that he was greatly surprised to observe that Sri Upendra did all his domestic chores himself notwithstanding his high social status. Sri Prasad informed the audience that Sri Upendra accepted recently the responsibilities as the State Minister of the Department of Public Needs and as the Commissioner of New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, and praised him as great person who by so doing brought forth a high recognition for Telugus and their existence.

Sri Buddha Prasad, the Deputy Speaker of Andhra Pradesh Assembly, told that there is a great deal of difference in the manner of functioning of Legislatures in India and America. In USA before a legislative bill is accepted long drawn discussions are held with all parties and groups of people to elicit their favorable and unfavorable views and their advice. The American Legislature has two wings, one solely concerned with passage of the legislative bills and the other with the implementation of the enacted laws. In USA violation of the laws by people attracts severe punishment.

Continuing his speech Sri Buddha Prasad said, “Sri Upehdra is known to Swamijee for a very long time now. When Sri Upendra happened to be in Chennai, Swamijee called me on the phone and wished a meeting to be arranged to felicitate Sri Upendra. Today’s meeting is thus a result of Swamijee’s desire and inspiration. I have asked Sri Upendra to try to have the statue of Dr Yellapragada Subba Rao, the world famous discoverer of many drugs and researcher, installed in New Jersey and also to try to introduce a course for the world-famous “Kuchipudi Dance Form” in one of the universities in New Jersey. I have expressed my desire that Sri Upendra would soon enter the Senate of USA and would serve as a bridge between India and USA so as to foster friendship and cooperation between them. Sri Upendra and Sri Chandra Babu Naidu, our Chief Minister, are on intimate terms with each other. I request the non-resident Indians living in USA to extend the necessary help and cooperation for the development of the new Andhra Pradesh State. I will convey to Sri Chandra Babu Naidu some of the suggestions made by them and ensure that they are acted upon.

Others who spoke at the meeting included – Sri Thotakura Prasad, former president of TANA, *r Balapuram Venkayya, M.L.A, Dr.Turlapati Kutumba Rao, a well-known journalist, Sri P.S.Rao, President of Telugu Logili, Sri Vavilala Rajanikantha Sarma, and Dr.Sri G.Poornachand.

These speeches were followed by honoring of Sri Upendra by Sri Sri Sri Viswayogi Viswamjee Maharaj and Sri Mandali Buddha Prasad in a highly befitting manner.

Thanking everyone for the honor and felicitation, Sri Upendra promised that he would render every help the Telugu people in New Jersey might need as a part of his social service activities. Similarly he assured that he would pass on suggestions for the development of new Andhra Pradesh State to Sri Mandali Buddha Prasad and to Sri Nara Chandra Babu Naidu, the Chief Minister.
